Pinoy Culture donates 10 children's books to fudraiser for typhoon Sendong survivors
On December 2011, the southern part of the Philippines was ravaged by Typhoon Sendong (international name Washi). On the latest update from the Philippine Reporter, there are a reported 1393 dead in Cagayan de Oro City and 738 in Iligan City. An additional 1,023 individuals have been reported missing. A total of 54,795 people has been reported to be displaced due to the typhoon, the most devastating in the last three years.
Pinoy Culture join the members of the community in an upcoming community effort to raise funds for the survivors of Sendong. On February 4, 2012, the organization Anakbayan Toronto will hold AHON: A Fundraiser for Survivors of Typhoon Sendong at the Kapisanan Philippine Centre for Arts and Culture (167 Augusta Ave., Toronto, Ontario). We will be donating five sets of two books each of our bilingual, illustrated Filipino children's books to their silent auction. Our very own Christine Balmes will also be performing music and poetry at the event. There will also be an open mic with performances by other Filipino Canadian artists such as Len Cervantes, Catherine Hernandez, and Arlene Paculan.
Please consider attending this fundraiser in an effort to help our kababayans.
